Larvikite is a member of the feldspar family and belongs to the monzonite group of igneous rocks. it take its name from the town of Larvik In Norway where it was first discovered. Often referred to as Norweigan Moonstone, Larvikite is characterised by its dark, bluish-grey base colour, often adorned with iridescent flashes of blue, silver and green, giving it a mesmerising appearance.
One of the most distinctive qualities of Larvikite is its unique composition, which incudes feldspar minerals such as labradorite and bytownite. This combination gives Larvikite its characteristic iridescence, known as the Schiller effect or labradorescence, which creates a play of colours when viewed from different angles.
